Better Than Expected

Posted on March 8, 2022March 8, 2022 by Angela Balasis

I spent much of last week on calls and sending emails dealing with my insurance company who didn’t think my scans were medically necessary!!!

You heard me right! You can imagine how I have been feeling. The primary cancer/tumor is still in my colon! What’s wrong with these people?! Are they trying to kill me?? I want it out yesterday!!
Fast forward to today, March 7th, my day of appointments: Blood work, scans that I wouldn’t have, seeing colon surgeon Dr. Seth Felder and urology/GU surgeon Dr. Logan Kemp. We were determined to make the best of it and hope the clinical notes from today will change my insurance’s mind!
Blood work was a breeze. Andy and I took a walk, sat on a bench outside in the sun for a bit, and then went to the cafeteria to grab lunch and burn some time (time that would have been for scans).
We met with my colon surgeon, Dr Felder. He was in good spirits and was willing to move forward with scheduling!! Hallelujah 😇 I still need the scans, but thank goodness we are moving forward!! I won’t know the date until the scheduler calls me. We do know it will be in April. Of course they tell you all the worst case scenarios 🤪 but they are not expected in my case 🤞🏻. He still wanted me to meet the GU surgeon in case my left ureter is involved, but based on his review of scans currently available he thought it might be ok! More good news!

I know the pic looks crazy, but I love it!! 😍 It means we have a plan!

We then hurried down to the GU clinic and met with Dr. Logan Zemp. He was funny and laid back but most importantly he also thought my ureter may be fine. He will still place stents as a precaution to help preserve the ureters during the colon surgery. Of course they tell you all the worst case scenarios 🤪 but again they are not expected in my case 🤞🏻.
So, what does all of this mean?
It means we are moving forward with surgery to remove my primary colon tumor in hopes of ridding my body of cancer!
It also means I will be holding my breath 😱 until I am able to have the 3 phase CT scans which will confirm no new cancer, show my liver growth, and show the surgeons the blood flow which allows for a final surgical plan!
Please Don’t Stop Praying! Pray the cancer is completely gone from my body! Pray the CT scans will be approved and show only good news! Pray for one another and be kind! I am also praying for each of you! 💕
COLON CANCER is preventable! GET your COLONOSCOPY!!! 💩💩(stop waiting)

Angela, I am so happy things are going this direction! These freaking insurance companies are ridiculous. Of course it’s medically necessary, give me a break! I’m so glad you’re an RN and your own advocate and will not accept any nonsense.

I am so angry after reading that the insurance company won’t approve these much needed scans. It makes me wonder if the Insurance companies truly have anyone’s best interest in mind. Do they think that by preventing the scans they might also prevent the surgery? Let’s all Storm the gates of Heaven with our prayers that ALL Angela’s diagnostics and treatments will be approved. God will have the Final say!
