Sunday night, January 2nd we arrived in Tampa. Andy and I like to go the night before so we will be ready bright and early for my day of appointments. We met my cousins Barbara, Mike, and Allison with her beautiful family out for dinner. We went to Kona Grill so we could sit outside. It was great to see them all and to catch up.
Once again we stayed at Noel McDonnell’s place. She has been such a blessing sharing her Tampa condo with us. It’s just a short drive to Moffitt Cancer Center from her place.
The morning was filled with blood work and CT scans. In the afternoon we met with both the liver surgeon, Dr Daniel Anaya, and the medical oncologist, Dr Xie. Based on my new CT scans, Dr Anaya’s plan for my liver has changed.
The new plan is to take my entire left lobe out, to resect a small tumor in the right lobe, and to ablate a larger tumor also in the right lobe that is still near two veins. When successful, this should “clear” my liver of cancer. Surgery is scheduled for February 3rd! It can’t come soon enough and at the same time it is too soon! Yikes! It is, however, the next necessary step so it is a blessing that I am a candidate for surgery.
01/12/22 MRI of cervical spine at Jupiter Medical Center as a safety precaution for surgery/anesthesia. Currently, when I put my chin to my chest, I feel a wave/whoosh of electricity that flows down my spine and legs and out thru my feet. The neuropathy in my hands and feet continue as well. What are you going to do?? Pray! Exercise! Eat well! 😊
01/14/22 Back to Moffitt for a day of preop appointments:
Bloodwork
Doppler of my legs to rule out clots
Anesthesia meeting
Echocardiogram
Here is the view of my heart during the echo…
Everything went well. Echo results have to come from the MD. I haven’t gotten a call so I should be all clear for liver surgery on February 3rd!
We expect that I will be in the hospital for 5-6 days. Following that I will stay in Tampa until my follow up on February 14th. I expect to continue recovery at home following this appointment. I will have my phone, so don’t be strangers. Just know I may not always be able to respond timely.
Details regarding subsequent colon surgery to remove the primary tumor to follow.
PLEASE continue all of your support!! It means the world!! Every prayer, text, card, meal, gift. Absolutely none of them go unnoticed or unappreciated. This has really helped me keep my chin up in these tough times. You are helping me heal! I appreciate and love all of you!
